Canada’s emission reduction target is currently 40% below 2005 levels by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. The 2030 Emission Reduction Plan was released in 2022. Since this, the latest report from the leading scientific authority on climate change, the IPCC’s 2023 Sixth Assessment, has stated that developed nations (like us) should actually target net-zero emissions by 2040 (and a 50% reduction by 2030) to reduce long-term impacts of climate change.
This is possible, but we need support from policy makers to make it happen.
From education to transportation infrastructure, we need all levels of government to create and implement a targeted climate action plan, ensuring that the climate in considered in all government decisions.
